Review from Video Business Online (sister publication to Variety) - from VB Indie Film Guide, Nov. 21, 2005
Story Line:Barry (Rapp) is an eager real estate agent hoping to sell his house to either a young couple (Martin, Duval), a jewelry thief called Dave (Doyle) or a pair of cops who are having an affair (Burress, Peters). And at the open house, their lives collide.
Bottom Line: A refreshing and very funny musical comedy about ... real estate? Yes! Director Mirvish has real indie cred, being the founder of the Slamdance Film Festival, which is probably why he has so many big names for a film that was obviously shot on the cheap. In the style of a traditional musical comedy, the characters frequently break into song, and with numbers like "Do You Love This House?," "Safe House of Love," and "Sellin' a Dream" (a ballad with such lyrics as "Don't you want to make a down payment today?"), the results are simply delightful. Star Martin, who always seemed so uptight on shows like ER, really belts it out and is obviously having a grand old time, along with the rest of the cast. Kellerman is brilliant as a blowsy drunk real estate agent on the make. At 90 minutes, Open House might seem to be a bit on the long side, but it's pure fun and a whole lot fresher than many of the offerings out there.—-Mayna Bergmann
